Meet and Greet Day
Attendance is limited to the registered child and only ONE parent (we are minimizing the number of people in the space). New and returning families are advised to attend.
It is highly recommended that you and your child attend the meet and greet as it goes a long way to successfully transition your child into the classroom.
Agenda will include:
- Meet and greet with your child educators, classmates, and other parents
- Educators will be taking a picture of each student
- Each student will be creating a craft to decorate our hallway bulletin boards! They can then look for their craft when they attend school the following week.
- Acquaint your child with educators, classroom, and classmates before the first day of school
- The main purpose of this event is to ease your child’s transition into the new Classroom and get to know classmates and educators before the first day of school
- Please arrive on time and plan to stay up to 30 minutes
If you are unable to attend your scheduled Meet and Greet Day, unfortunately, we are not able to reschedule as it is scheduled with your child’s class.
Initial Assessment
- Parents will sign up for a 20 minute time slot per child for only one of the Initial Assessment day’s using a scheduling link that will be included in the ‘First Week of School’ email (sent around Mid-August)
- Teachers will be spending some one-on-one time with your child to get to know them and build rapport before the first day of class, provide support for the transition into the classroom, provide support for separation anxiety if required, as well as begin their initial assessment.
- Please note that this is a casual interaction between your child and his/her teacher and is meant to be a positive experience. It is not a formal assessment and there is nothing to prepare for. In addition to getting to know each child, teachers will create a baseline so they can tailor the program with an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) for each child. During this time, we request parents to leave the room so that your child can spend some time getting to know the teachers without relying on you for support.
Staggered Entry - First Day of Regular classes
The first day of school will be the week starting after Labour Day Monday.
- During the first week of school, half the class will attend one day, and the other half the other day. After the two staggered entry days, classes will resume as per normal schedule on the third day of class.
- Students will attend for the entire class. Parents are welcome to come into the classroom and take a little more time with drop off. However, we do ask Parents for a quick goodbye so our teachers are able to transition the students into the daily routine and redirect any students who may show signs of anxiety.
- Staggered entry helps with transitioning your child to the classroom environment with a smaller class size and gives Teachers more time to get to know your child on the first day. Feel free to stay a little longer this first week to help your child transition if required.
- Your assigned day will be be included in the ‘First Week of School’ email (sent around Mid-August)
